Lee Scratch Perry is one of the best producers of our age. Sound engineers are still trying to reverse engineer his techniques. He is in his 80's and still producing and releasing his own records. The funny thing about Perry is when the mic or cameras are on he is the very eccentric crazy Upsetter but as soon as that stuff goes away he is as normal as apple pie.
I just found this cool documentary called The Upsetter which is narrated by Benicio Del Toro. This should be superb and I've already ordered my copy. http://theupsettermovie.com/
In 1980 Paul McCartney was arrested in Japan for bringing 8ozs of pot. Lee Scratch Perry upon hearing about this injustice wrote a letter to the Japanese Minister Of Justice. I'd like to think it helped secure his early release from jail.
Now Lee Scratch Perry was producing the best artist in Jamaica until the arrival of Chris Blackwell. This did not sit well with Perry so he wrote this over the top song called Judgement In A Babylon. This is one of my favorites. I need to find this 45... ROFLMAO...
" He killed Bob Marley and take away his royalty. -He killed Bob Marley
and anhilize the Wailers. -Chris Blackwell is a vampire, who's sucking the
blood of the sufferah, ah. Tom Hayes is a vampire, who's sucking the
blood of the sufferah. -Chris Blackwell killed Bob Marley and take away
his royalty because Bob Marley was speaking the truth. -So he set him up
to get rid of him, because he's working for the mafias. -I saw Chris Blackwell
in Nassau, drinking the blood of a chicken in a rum glass and have the heart to
offer Iman a drink " Lee Scratch Perry
" Chris Blackwell come to Jamaica and want to sign up all the artist, because
he wants to control Jamaican music, then he can take the black man music
and promote his white artists, but Jahovia Jah Rastafari said it won't work
he get a jerk " Lee Scratch Perry
On a lighter note here is the compilation of Lee Scratch Perry Guinness adverts...
Pretty cool horn in the park fun. Doesn't seem to be anything hooked up to it so they appear to be just annoying the locals with the horn. Hmm I might need one of these.
Check out these resurrected Patrician 800s. These beauties fell into the hands of Forrest for almost nothing and couldn't have happened to a better person. Forrest was the first person I met at an audio event with an open mind and ears to new things. That first audio event was a blast though and I still talk to many of the people I met there. This may be one of the largest posts for this blog.
Here they are on arrival and some pics to see the condition they arrived in.
Here are some pics of the inards.
Oh man check out these EV T350 tweeters with one pound of alnico. These are top notch and specd 3500-23000hz.
The real show stopper in these speakers are the EV 30 inch woofer. These really dig deep and the condition is superb. I mean really T350 and EV 30s.
Now here are all the parts removed from the cabinets and you can tell the condition is wonderful.
The only parts that weren't in goood condition were the attenuators so Forrest contacted Bob Crites of Crites Speakers to figure out the attenuators and replaces the caps in the crossover. As usual Bob did great work. http://critesspeakers.com/
Forrest completely broke these down to clean repair and restore.
Here are the cabinets with the cabinets mostly back together and finish restored. These have been around and have some dings and scratches here and there but to me that is well earned character. I like the way he restored them the best he could but left the character. Nice work.
This is the fun part as all the parts start going back in to the cabinets.
This is the finished product with new grill cloth and beautiful finish. Just incredible.
WOW WOW WOW
Not that you can get a feel for sound quality via youtube but it is cool to see them playing.
Great work Forrest!!! I hope to hear these someday.
Just added this pic as Forrest just got them loaded into the corners. Very nice room for big speakers.
